Background
The work of the project takes place both statewide and within target communities. As a result, the AWARE Project is set up to support both levels of activity, with support from a number of key stakeholder groups.

Key Partners
The California Medical Association Foundation has taken the lead to organize a coalition of physician organizations, healthcare providers, health systems, health plans, employer groups, public health agencies, consumer and community based health organizations, federal, state and local government representatives and the pharmaceutical industry to address the impact of growing antibiotic resistance throughout California.

Partner organizations bring knowledge, experience and expertise critical to the success of this effort.

Guiding Principles

Development of the approaches, materials and resources of the AWARE Project is grounded in the following principles:
  • The strength of the project comes from collaboration and involvement of individuals with varied backgrounds and experience.
  • We will learn and benefit from other's experience.
  • The emphasis of the project is behavior change.
  • Implementation at the community level is central to our effort.
  • We are committed to an inclusive approach that reaches California's underserved and ethnic communities.
  • Materials and approaches will be developed in a culturally competent manner.
  • Prevention plays a strong role in the project's efforts
