National Conference

  Conference Highlights & Key Outcomes

As a result of the national conference, regional networks have been established to strengthen communication and planning among antibiotic resistance projects across the nation. These regional networks are organized and supported by the CDC's National Campaign to Increase Appropriate Antibiotic Use in the Community. The regional networks foster greater sharing among states of resources, knowledge and expertise.

A partnership has been formed with the AMA to reach out to medical organizations nationwide. In 2004, a toolkit will be disseminated to state medical associations and other physician organizations providing resources that will strengthen their involvement in state and local antibiotic resistance campaigns. There will be a focus on encouraging physicians to become involved in community outreach as well.

Emphasis on reaching ethnic communities in media and patient education is now a priority for national and statewide campaigns, particularly targeting the Latino community. Efforts are under way to engage ethnic media as active partners in campaigns to reach ethnic communities and to ensure that the messages in these campaigns are sensitive to the cultures they are trying to reach.
